Live FM audio feed from Nasir Mosque inauguration event
On the evening of the opening ceremony Radio Sunlight volunteers teamed up with volunteers from MTA (Muslim Television Ahmadiyya) who filmed the impressive inauguration activities, feeding live audio coverage of the ceremony to Medway listeners on 106.6FM. It was a fun exercise for both volunteer teams and a particularly useful technical task for Sunlight.
Worshipers and guests were bussed to the event; to tour the newly rebuilt mosque, view displays, and after listening to the inauguration speeches, eat a delicious meal and socialise. Speakers included Sheikh Naseer Ahmad, About 650 people attended. Men and women from the Mosque traditionally worship separately, so the Sunlight Centre was booked primarily for the women of the congregation. The men filled the Mosque to capacity. Sanctuary Housing Association own the plot of land between the Sunlight Centre and the Mosque. They kindly allowed the Muslim Community to cover ground with 35 tons of shingle and erect an elegantly decorated 42 metre (138ft) long marquee, with a reception area, a display area, catering/dining spaces and a stage for the speakers.
The front of the new Mosque is adorned with gold letters saying 'Love for all Hatred for None', which is the motto of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community. This message was a memorable focus in many of the speeches, especially the key speech from the Head of the Worldwide Ahmadiyya Muslim Community. His speech highlighted examples of Ahmadiyya projects locally and worldwide to help communities overcome hardship and gain human rights. If you want to hear a podcast of this 24 minute keynote address by the Supreme Head of the Worldwide Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, Hazrat Mirza Marsoor Ahmad, visit the Radio Sunlight podcast page:

It's all about you, the listener
We hope that volunteers and other community members will provide local information and encourage debate.
Community radio stations are more likely to survive if listeners benefit from the service. As we train more volunteers to work behind the scenes it will become easier to respond to listener messages, research, edit and present interesting and relevant local information.
There is already a waiting list of potential volunteers who hope to participate in our training programme so that they can take on a variety of volunteer roles at Radio Sunlight.
Currently the list is closed to new applicants until we have raised the funds we need to resume the training programme. Have a look at the join in page.
We intend to continue holding open meetings to share information and build stronger links with listeners.
